The Planet Imagine Series:

  • A Planet Called Imagine

  • Imagine Disaster

A Planet Called Imagine is a story of exploration and discovery on an alien planet.

Pirrul and Eiric and their friends have finished school in the human colony on the planet they call Imagine, but they are bored with the menial jobs that they are assigned. They jump at the chance to form an expedition to explore the nearby mountains and forests for resources that the colony needs. They discover alien plants and animals; they discover iron ore and how to smelt it; they discover how to build houses from the materials at hand - and they discover romance. They dream of making a life for themselves in the mountains - but the leadership of the colony has other plans!

Imagine Disaster finds Pirrul and Eiric and their friends five years later.

The friends have built up a little community of about twenty people that is almost self-sufficient - until a natural disaster destroys much of their infrastructure. Death and destruction cause conflict and tension that threaten to destroy everything they have worked for - and there are problems with the new leadership of the colony, which may separate them from their families permanently.

First, I love the cover art! It's clearly original and not A.I. Generated which reflects the love this author has for her book. The illustrator did a great job of capturing the essence of the story.
The novel itself was well thought out and remarkably attention grabbing. I am a fan of authors who create entire new worlds for their story setting. N.A. Walker blended her characters into this unique environment masterfully. Her ideas on planetary colonization are well thought out and, in my opinion, spot on. She also had a very well balanced character cast with great interaction.

In A Planet Called Imagine, author N.A. Walker has spun a wonderfully entertaining tale. N.A. Walker has put a whole new twist on the concept of people traveling from Earth to another planet. I was very quickly enveloped in the story and the characters, and found myself unable to put the book down. I was engrossed by their adventures and had to find out what would happen next. This is the perfect book for Science Fiction readers of all ages. If you think you’ve read it all, that is because you have not yet read A Planet Called Imagine. -Brian Campbell on Amazon

5.0 out of 5 stars Engaging tale of survival and adventure

Planet Imagine 2: Imagine Disaster continues the tale of idealistic settlers from Earth building a new life on an alien world. The settlers are split between those who pursue a more technological-based and somewhat more autocratic society, and those who pursue a more basic life dominated by consensus and living with nature. The interaction with their environment is key as they discover its secrets.

The story continues the tale of building the new settlement, finding raw materials, building a bridge etc. I liked the practical side of the story, essentially explaining how to build from scratch, in smelting ore, making shelters, building a bridge, etc. The recovery from the disaster is well executed in the text. I like that there were various issues they had to overcome which add to the realism.

The style of story telling is gentle, good for young adults or older children, though as the title suggests things don't always go well. The artwork throughout by the author really adds to the story. It's well edited and flows nicely. It can be read in a few sittings. I look forward to reading the next installment!

I would give the book 4 stars, which I class as very good. I would liked to have seen more depth in places, but I appreciate the book is aimed at teens, so that's a little unfair as a criticism. For that reason I have awarded 5 stars for the purposes of the review. -
